Making Suggestions

We are a caring community. We help others who are in needs. When action can't be done, a piece of a wise suggestion given to solve a problem can come handy too.

These are the powerful phrases we use when making suggestions:
  • Why don't we...?
  • Let's...
  • Shall we...?
Why do we call those phrases powerful? Coz we can help others and make a difference using those phrases.

We can show that we care for friends in needs, animals, plants, environments, and our surrounding community too!

We made campaigns in various forms: comics, a role-play, a poster, a song, and short stories. We included the powerful phrases in our campaign.

Let's take a look!

Teachers' Appreciation Day

To celebrate Teachers' Appreciation Day, BINUS Radio collaborated with Students Development Committee and Students Council.

The students body held a fund raising in order to dedicate a special gift for their beloved teachers. They sold flowers and pins in three days. Many students were excited to support the programme by buying and giving the tokens to their teachers. The principal also set up a Greeting Wall for students to write messages for their teachers.

BINUS Radio took role to help announcing and encouraging the fund raising through radio. We also spread the Teachers' Appreciation Day fever by playing a beautiful song about teacher (in Bahasa Indonesia).

Listen up!

Thanks, Teachers! The world won't be the same without you :)

Very Inspiring. Teaching Is Touching Life

I'm glad I started my teaching career in a Christian school, where I got the ideal of being a good teacher: teaching is touching life. Teachers make a difference in one's life.

I saw this movie for the first time when I was still in that Christian school. It was played in one of the Professional Development days. I forgot about it and found the link again in my friend's blog. I watched it again, and inspired one more time.

Let this movie be a reminder for us of the higher purpose of a teaching career. In fact, it's more of a calling rather than a career :)

Here's the link. Do watch it. It's inspiring:

Plants Around Us

We took a walk around the school to observe different kind of plants in our school environment. Let's see what we found!

These are creepers. They have weak stems and they creep on the ground.

Take a look closer.

They grow near the ground.

These flowers grow singly.

How about these? Do they grow singly or in clusters?

The flower grows singly.

The flowers grow in clusters.

The grass flowers have dull colors.

Observe the flowers.

White ixora. Do they grow singly or in clusters?

How about these flowers?

BINUS Radio #3

This is our 3rd BINUS Radio programme. The script was made by grade 6 students (and of course edited by me). This group was more creative than the others. They added a part of the song they sang as a part of the opening.

I like Nataasja's voice. She sounds cheerful, even though she had to repeat several lines which were too long/complicated for her.

Nadira, on the other hand, was more confident. She almost had no problem at all reading all her lines. However, her voice sounds a bit too serious.

I'll try to encourage them to come up with something less serious/formal in the future. Teaching students (elementary!) writing scripts is kind of hard though, especially when this activity is only an extracurricular programme held once (1 hour) a week. In these 3 radio programmes, I edited a lot it seems I am the one to write the whole thing (except for this one).

I also asked them to think  of an opening jingle for our school radio. So far they hadn't been able to come up with anything. Maybe I should give them a real sample first.

So, what do you think of this school radio programme? Do you have any inputs/suggestions to improve this programme?

BINUS Radio #2

Our 2nd BINUS Radio programme was aired today! Now the students and teachers can listen to it in their break time.

I know the quality of the recording is not the best, but well, we're still learning. And with the limited equipments we have, I'm proud that we can create this brand new programme in our school.

Hopefully this programme can be a way to promote the 6 pillars of characters and social-emotional learning we use at school, also to maintain communication in our school.

In this edition, we got an interview with our VP, Ms. Karah, about leadership. Take a look on how BINUS Radio reporter, Rafi, interviewed her.

I also hope that students can be more exposed to "clean" and age-appropriate songs BINUS Radio carefully selects and plays rather than (mostly) obscene and inappropriate pop songs nowadays.
